The NLDS - Los Angeles,CA - October 4-5, 2014

This is how mine and Robbie's Instant Message conversation went on Friday afternoon (Oct. 3):

2:12pm -
Robbie: What's the plan for the weekend?
Me: What do you want to do?
Robbie: I think going to L.A. would be fun.
Me: I think so too. Let's do it!

We knew the MLB NLDS (National League Division Series) was in L.A. this weekend, and we were throwing around the idea of going all week, but it wasn't until our IM conversation that we put the wheels in motion! From that moment, I reserved the rental car, Robbie got the baseball tickets, and that night, we reserved the hotel.

We wanted to head out as early as possible, so our car rental pick-up was at 7:30am on Saturday! Much to our surprise, they gave us a White Mustang Convertible to drive, which was perfect! Droptop to L.A.? Ummm....yes please! This weekend was unseasonably warm in Southern California, so we actually had to put the top up once we reached the western suburbs, as the outside temps were 101 degrees!

We agreed on a hotel right on Venice Beach, Hotel Erwin, because we knew we were going to be in L.A. long before the game started. We love the beach, so it was the perfect spot to call home for the night! The view out our window was even of the beach! We had barely checked into our hotel before we were out laying on the beach! It was glorious! We spent a few hours laying out and playing in the Pacific! Before the beach, we ate at this place on the boardwalk called Danny's,which turned out to be the restaurant that a scene of the movie "I Love You, Man" was shot at! It had very good food!

After relaxing on the beach for the afternoon, we were headed to Dodger Stadium for the game. So, here's the thing with L.A.....traffic sucks at all times of the day, and it's even worse when there is an event in town, like the Dodger Game. In a normal city, it would've taken about 20 minutes to get from the beach to the stadium, but being there were a million other cars on the freeway, we took side streets, and it took an hour and a half to get there! The side streets were fairly free-flowing, but driving on the streets were much better than sitting in bumper-to-bumper traffic on the freeways!

We had been to Dodger Stadium twice before for regular season games, but this was our first time ever going to a post-season game!! The Dodgers were playing the St, Louis Cardinals in this series, so we were cheering hard for the Dodgers, too.

We had tickets in the upper deck behind the foul pole, and the view was pretty great! As we were settling into our seats, the sun was setting behind the stadium, and it was a perfect way to start the game!

The pitching match-ups were the Dodgers' Zack Greinke vs. the Cardinals' Lance Lynn. We were pretty excited to see Zack Greinke start this game! He used to be the Brewers ace a few years back, and then he was traded to the Dodgers after that. Lance Lynn is probably the Cardinals 3rd best pitcher, so it was advantage Dodgers in this game!

The Dodgers took the lead in the 4th inning on a couple RBI's, to make the score 2-0. The Dodgers pitcher Zack Greinke even had 2 hits!! The Cardinals tied it up at 2 in the 8th, but the Dodgers' Matt Kemp hit what would end up as the game winning homerun in the 8th!

It was fun to be a part of the Dodgers crowd at Dodger Stadium when the Dodgers ended up winning in the first post-season experience for us! The outcome of each game at every Dodgers game we have been to in L.A. has gone our way!!

On Sunday morning before we checked out of our hotel, we had breakfast at Danny's again, and then went up to our hotel's rooftop lounge that overlooks the Pacific. The views up there were stunning! We could see up and down the coast for miles, and when looking back into the city, the Hollywood sign! It was still really hot on our way back to Vegas, so we drove home with the top up. :( Sad!

Considering we planned our L.A. trip not even 24 hours before we left, it was really fun! Everything worked out perfectly, and as always, I was sad to see the weekend come to a close. Til next time, L.A.!
